In 2012 as Local Motors geared up to revamp the online community tools, we decided to create a gamification system. One of the key elements to this system was a system of badges that users could gain. Inspired by medals that are given to Military Service Members, Local Motors decided to create a modular badge that users could gain. A small part of it would be shown on their profile in a "fruit salad" format under the user's photo. Users could collect badges to show rank and awards in the community. Some of the badges were humorous. Some of them were time limited. Some of them could be passed to other members and were very rare. The goal was to make the platform fun, and exciting to be a part of. This was probably one of the most fun projects I worked on outside of making vehicles.
